Kawasaki KRX 1000 vs Polaris RZR XP 1000 — Which Should You Mod First?
Both the Kawasaki KRX 1000 and the Polaris RZR XP 1000 are legitimate desert trail machines. Both are fast, capable, and well-supported by the aftermarket. But they have genuinely different personalities — and that means the mod priority list looks different depending on which one you're riding.
RZR XP 1000 — Mod Priority
The XP 1000 platform has been around since 2014, which means the aftermarket is deep and well-developed. The most common complaint from XP 1000 riders is cockpit exposure — the stock open-door configuration leaves legs and gear wide open to rocks and debris on desert trails.
The #1 mod for the XP 1000: 2014–2023 Polaris RZR XP 1000 Plastic Door Inserts. They bolt on in under an hour, require no drilling, and immediately improve the cockpit experience on dusty desert trails.
KRX 1000 — Mod Priority
The KRX 1000 came to market with a more refined factory cockpit than the XP 1000, but trail riders quickly identified dust and wind intrusion as the primary discomfort on longer runs. A windshield upgrade makes a dramatic difference in riding comfort.
Our 2020–2023 Kawasaki KRX 1000 Half Windshield is made from scratch-resistant polycarbonate and bolts to the factory cage without modification. It's the single most impactful KRX upgrade for desert trail riders.
The Bottom Line
- RZR XP 1000: start with lower door inserts, then windshield, then tire carrier
- KRX 1000: start with windshield, then door/panel protection, then spare tire carrier
- Both platforms: install a whip flag mount before your first group ride
Both platforms are excellent — the KRX 1000 tends to attract riders who prioritize reliability and a quieter ride; the XP 1000 attracts riders who want more of a performance-tuned experience. Either way, our team rides both. Text us at 480-322-4626 with any fitment questions.
